Many rumours are spreading regarding Xiaomi's upcoming flagship smartphone. The Mi 6 looks to be quite a comprehensive update over its previous smartphone technologies and is set to come with Qualcomm's latest flagship processor and a dual camera setup at the back.
Now, a new report claims that the device will use Sony's IMX400 camera sensor for its rear camera. This is the same triple-sensor system found in the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs and is capable of recording video at an astonishing 960 frames per second.
The leak report also claims that the Mi 6 will come in two different versions : one with a 5.15' display and another with a bigger 5.7 'display.
The smartphone is set to be powered by Qualcomm's latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 835. Additionally, the device is rumoured to come with a 3000 Mah battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, USB Type-C for charging and data transfer and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button up front.
There are expected to be two different variants of the device : one with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and a premium version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Certain rumours also point towards an even cheaper version of the device which will eschew the Snapdragon 835 SoC entirely in favour of the Helio X30.
What's curious about this particular report
That is the Mi 6 will supposedly use the Sony IMX400 sensor - the same 3-layer stacked CMOS imager Sony announced a month ago. The sensor is featured in the Xperia XZ Premium and XZs and Sony showed off its 960fps high frame rate shooting capabilities in Barcelona - we even have a few videos of our own.A new set of leaks, about the upcoming Xiaomi flagship, reveal that these devices will be equipped with the latest Sony IMX400 sensor. Previous reports had said that the rear camera will be an IMX386 but that seems to have changed. If the Mi 6 does come with the IMX400, it will be quite surprising since it is the latest and greatest from Sony, and they usually reserve such sensors for their devices.
On the design front, the Mi 6 is rumoured to come with a curved display, similar to the one found on the Galaxy S6 and Mi Note 2 and a ceramic body like the one found on the Mi Mix.
As for the original source, it also claims that the larger Mi 6 (likely the Mi 6 Plus) will come with a dual camera setup, not unlike a certain iPhone 7 Plus.
The smartphone was expected to be announced in February but now will most probably see the light sometime in April.
It must be kept in mind that these are all rumours and we will have to wait until Xiaomi actually announces the smartphone for any confirmation.
